Ingenium Academy saxophonists with course leader Dom Childs, Summer 2016

Saxophone students at the Ingenium Academy enjoy a varied and immersive three-week programme. The course is aimed at young saxophonists who want to develop their technique, musicianship, and knowledge of repertoire and the instrument.

Students on our Saxophone Programme have the opportunity to work on solo repertoire in one-to-one lessons, and ensemble playing in combinations including quartets, sextets and larger ensembles including jazz bands and orchestra. The programme includes in-depth technique classes, where students learn about extended techniques, as well as performance classes and collaborative composition workshops. Saxophonists also have the chance to learn and play other saxophones, including the soprano and baritone.

As part of the Ingenium Academy, saxophone students join their peers from our other programmes to take part in a variety of workshops and masterclasses. These cover everything from jazz and improvisation to conducting and composition, helping to broaden musical appreciation and experience.

Concerts in Winchester and London offer students the chance to share their hard work with the public. Students are also encouraged to form small chamber and jazz groups, and have the opportunity to perform at our internal Perfomance Platforms.
