Music Auditions & Applications
We are looking for talented musicians with a passion for music making. All candidates must demonstrate a high level of musicianship, musicality and good technique.
Auditions for the Ingenium Academy summer 2019 are now open
Here's our step-by-step guide on how to apply to the Ingenium Academy, what we require and what to expect!
1. Audition Video*
We ask that you record an audition video for us showcasing your talent. If you are applying for our orchestral or chamber programmes, you will need to prepare our set piece for your instrument which you can download from our website. For full details of what your audition video should contain and how to record it, please see our auditions pages. If you don't have a video camera don't worry - as long as we can clearly see and hear your performance good quality smartphone/tablet/webcam videos are fine! We prefer mp4 format if you can.
(*Please note that applicants to the Composition Programme will need to submit examples of their music instead of an audition video.)
2. Letter of Recommendation
Please ask your music teacher or school counsellor to write a letter of recommendation to accompany your video. The letter needs to say that your video is a true representation of your playing / singing and that they approve of your application to Ingenium. Don't worry if your teacher doesn't speak English - it's ok to send us your letter of recommendation in your own language and we will translate it.
Please upload your letter to our online application form - our system accepts Microsoft Word files and PDFs.
Please upload a photo of yourself to our online application form. Your photo needs to be a clear, passport style photo where we can see the whole of your face. You need to be on your own in the photo. This photo will be used on your Ingenium ID badge during your time with us.
4. Application Form
Please fill in our application form. The form will ask you for the contact details (including email address and mobile phone number) of 2 parents / guardians. You will also need to tell us a little bit about your musical playing / singing experience and provide us with the contact details of your music teacher / school.
Applicants to the Conducting and Composition programmes also need to submit a separate questionnaire.
We require a £250 deposit upon application. This is payable via credit card or wire bank transfer.
Please choose your method of payment on our application form and follow the subsequent instructions.
We will only begin to process your application once this deposit has been received.
Should you not be successful in gaining a place at the academy, the deposit will be refunded to you minus a £20 administration fee.
All these things can be sent to us with the application form. Please upload your video, letter and photo to our form and choose your method of payment for the deposit when you submit the form.
If your video is too big to attach to our application form - don't worry! Please send it through to us by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) using a file-sharing website such as WeTransfer.
Once you have submitted your application and all 5 of the application components have been received by us, your audition video and letter of recommendation will be reviewed by our audition panel.
We aim to contact every applicant to let them know their result within two weeks of receiving the application.
If you have any questions regarding the application process or how to apply, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Places at the Ingenium Academy are awarded on merit and on a first come first served basis. We therefore strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible to be in with the best chance of securing your place.
